Description

Clayton Jassen is 14 years old and has been a member of the Tiger Butte 4-H club for 7 years. Some hobbies and interests include: Basketball, running, riding and other 4-H projects like, Colt to Maturity, Western Horsemanship, Ranch Horse, Shooting Sports.

This year, they are offering for sale, Curly, a Simmental/Black Angus Steer. Curly was purchased from Home raised on Neversweat Ranch. Curly was born on March 13, 2019 with a starting weight of 645, average daily gain of 3.1 to finish at 1397.

Here's what Clayton Jassen has to say about Curly:

This big black SimAngus steer is big boned, deep bodied and finished to give a quality yield. Curly is my 4th market steer and has been enjoyable to train and work with. Curly stood out from the start in the spring calving bunch in 2019. He exhibited the qualities I look for in a 4-H project steer and is the type of steer a rancher would want to match the whole herd to. As my own cowherd yielded all heifer calves that spring I made a trade with the ranch to acquire this steer for my project. We weaned calves in October and began training and gentling the steers in the fall months. Curly has gained on average 3.1 #/day during the feeding period and is finishing out at just over 1400 pounds by show day. I have fed CHS bull challenger pellets and offered free choice grass and hay along with mineral and salt.

In addition to my market steer project I have a 3 year old palomino colt in the young horse program in 4-H and show a 7 year old gelding in Western Horsemanship and Ranch Horse projects. I enjoyed having additional time on the ranch to help with calving, ranch work and being able to go to many brandings this spring with school and sports closed down due to the virus. It is certainly nice that activities are returning to normal this summer. I was able to play summer basketball, which is my favorite sport, and will be gearing up for cross country running and football season this fall. I am very involved in my school activities and enjoy the variety of opportunities that 4-H brings to me. Besides the beef project I have previously taken lambs, pigs, woodworking, welding, shooting sports and archery in 4-H.

Thank you for supporting the Cascade County 4-H Livestock program and youth members. I hope you enjoy the buyers social and find just what you are looking for to fill your freezer!
